Song of the Week #47

I told you I’d sneak some John 5 in at some point with a bit of Rob Zombie.

Although arguably more famous for being a horror film director-singer COMBO than an actual musician, Rob Zombie is a one of a kind. I’ll begrudgingly admit to you lovely people, I’ve listened to 2 episodes of the Joe Rogan podcast (both before his move over to Spotify). One of those 2 was where Rob Zombie guested, talking about loving Alice Cooper and horror films from an early age, and naturally edging towards wanting to become a musician firstly, before finally getting his chance to start directing films.

Rob Zombie actually has a surprisingly good back catalogue of tunes, because of course, as well as his solo work, there are 4 White Zombie albums, and it made it a tough one for this SOTW. I first got into Rob Zombie when I bought Hellbilly Deluxe 2 - his first album with John 5 no less, in 2010. The first 5 or 6 tracks on that album are all gold, and I really wanted to use What? for this week. I considered heavily including The Eternal Struggles of the Howling Man off his latest album, but then decided to pull it back slightly, the overall Song of the Week playlist is becoming a bit skewed with strange one offs and so is missing a few anchor points that everyone can appreciate.

With that in mind then, there was only one Zombie tune I could go for (and that includes everything with White Zombie). Sorry John, maybe you’ll get in another time. Dig through the ditches, and burn through the witches, I slam in the back of my Dragula.
