Song of the Week #8
Hangman are good. Real good. You’d be daft not to consider them an indispensable part of the future of New York hardcore. The attitude both live and on their music pays obvious homage to some of the great names to have graced the scene over the last 30 years. Given that their debut album comes in at a lofty 18 minutes, it really is a blink and you’ll miss it piece of music. As a result, I’m purposefully going to keep this Song of the Week explanation as short as I can, to give you as much time to give them a listen as humanly possible.
As a parting note, when they visited Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club in November of 2019 supporting Backtrack’s final tour, pre performance the band emerged from the crowd where they’d been enjoying the musical theatre of Scotland’s Last Wishes, and post performance the band immediately leapt back into the crowd so as not to miss the rest of the show. If that isn’t what hardcore is all about, then I don’t know what is.
Additional side note from the brudenell show, was that one of the guitarists came onstage sporting a truly excellent Usher long sleeve shirt, and you’d better believe I have a lot of time for that.
The song I've linked is the album’s title track, One by One - Enjoy.
