Song of the Week #3
Few things in life give you that truly warm and fuzzy indicative feeling inside that everything isn’t all that bad. The smell of a perfectly cooked loaf of bread, the feel of light frost in the air on a crisp spring morning, or listening to a record from a local band that packs the all the toxic punch of an angry beehive.
Delivering music via US kingpins Triple B records, the linked song “Penine Scrubs” is the opening track off Big Cheese’s 2020 album Punishment Park. The entire album lives up to the hype of their earlier demos and reaffirms the belief that the Leeds-based group belong squarely amongst the pedigree at the heart of Britains best new hardcore bands. Start to finish, the album will have you kicking through the walls you’ve just spent the last winter months painting in lockdown.
Thankfully at the tail end of the pandemic, Big Cheese have started to announce odd dates for shows in support of the “new” record, most notably September 18th at the oslo in London. I hope you’ll be tempted to support your local hardcore scene by picking up the record, a ticket, or grabbing a t shirt. Stay safe!
